Arrowhead PTA 2011 Read-A-Thon Rodeo

October 4 - 25, 2011

Howdy Folks!!  We have officially kicked off Arrowhead PTA's fall fundraiser:  The Read-A-Thon Rodeo!!  Now your child might be focused on all of the awesome prizes, but let's take a moment and consider why we have a Read-A-Thon.  Reading is a vital skill necessary for a successful educational experience.  In elementary school, reading for 20-30 minutes a day is part of required homework.  The sad fact is that sometimes kids and families get so busy that they skip reading as a daily activity.  We would like to take the next three weeks and make reading a rewarding experience for both your child and your family!

*****This year we are changing our focus from "Total Minutes Read" to % of students reaching a weekly reading goal.  If 60% of students hit their reading goal, the SCHOOL REWARD is to have Mrs. Moore and some of the Arrowhead Staff perform a zany Western Line Dance at the awards assembly!!*****

How does the Read-A-Thon help our school?

The donations raised during the Read-A-Thon support the many PTA programs that benefit our students.  With recent budget cuts, these funds are critical and enable us to continue to provide enrichment that makes our school a special place.  Below is a brief list of how our PTA has used these funds:

  • Purchased supplemental reading books, library books, PE equipment, and drums for the drumming program.
  • Sponsored after school clubs including Art, Drama, Science, and Foreign Language.
  • Provided activities including the Ice Cream Social, Science Fair, Art Night, Pancake Breakfast, the School Dance, Talent Show, and much much more!!

If you would like these programs to continue, we need your help!  Last year, only 47% of students returned their donation envelopes.  We can do better than that!!

Our Goal

We have set our fundraising goal at $50 per student, but we encourage each family to donate as they are able.  As an incentive, this year we are offering a SCHOOL REWARD to have World Record Holder and 2011 Parent Map Award Winner Louie Foxx entertain at Book Fair Night if we can increase our participation to 60%.  Every donation is appreciated and every envelope returned with a donation will count equally toward this participation prize!!

So now it's time to wrangle up some good books and read, read, READ!! If you have questions, please contact Suzy Brunn at 4suzy97@gmail.com

Thank you for supporting Arrowhead's PTA
