Annie Barrows coming November 2, 2011!
Annie Barrows, popular author of the ivy and Bean series and The Magic Half will be at Arrowhead Wednesday, Nov. 2 to meet with our second, third, and fourth graders. Annie will talk about her books and writing in our AH library from 2-3 in the afternoon. Students will have an opportunity to pre-purchase Annie's books and she will autograph them. See Mrs. Noland if you have any questions! This is a very awesome event!
Other Library News from Sally Noland. . . .
I am way behind in spreading the good news about what's been happening in our Arrowhead library so let me fill you in!
- I am continuing discussions with our Arrowhead kids on the topic of bullying (I am using different terms like target, aggressor, and bystander). We have talked about an aggressor using physical, verbal and nonverbal acts on a target and we have had some great discussions on different ways a bystander can be active instead of passive. Also with our younger kids I am talking about the basics of online computer safety (for the little ones just knowing an adult should be present when using the internet) and this transfers into discussing cyber-bullying with our sixth graders. On January 19th, a Victims Advocate officer from the Seattle Police Department spoke with our sixth graders about issues of online safety and cyber-bullying. Hopefully you have had a chance to discuss with your sixth graders some of the information shared at that presentation.
If you were not able to be at the December PTA meeting when I talked about some of the materials I will be using this year to discuss this topic, I have some listed. Hopefully you'll get a chance to use some of the ideas from these sources as discussion starters for your family.
